Jonathan Neerman survived Texas A&M, the George Washington University Law School and a job with the CIA. He may face his greatest challenge yet in chairing the Dallas County Republican Party, a job he has held since May 2008. His strategy is to broaden the party’s base by attracting the younger and family-oriented voters who increasingly reject the GOP’s social conservative bent. “The party has drifted so far to the right that the only way we’re going to grow the party is to tack back a little bit,” he says. “You at least have to be able to go into groups and say: ‘It’s OK if you’re pro-choice. You can be a pro-choice Republican.’ ” He sat down recently with The Dallas Morning News editorial board for a wide-ranging conversation.
