CBS: Political Parties Get Vocal On Health Care Reform
Many Democrats say their health care reform message isn’t being heard. Some have accused Republicans of organizing vocal protests around the country.
Some town hall meetings have turned into shouting matches. Now, Democrats are fighting back. “We are encouraging our people to get the message out and get their voice heard,” said Steve Tillery with the Dallas County Democratic Party.
An e-mail blasted out by the Democratic National Committee Project ‘Organizing for America’ encourages people to take part in what’s been dubbed “office visits for health reform.” The e-mails tell members to stop by their local congressional offices to show their support for reform.
One was directed at Republican senator Kay Bailey Hutchison.
“The Democrats in Washington are seeing the organic grassroots support against this bill,” said Jonathan Neerman with the Dallas County Republican Party. “They are trying to manufacture their own support for the bill.”
